An award!

Some time ago my friend Carmen awarded me with the Arte e pico award for art and creativity shown in blogs. I was surprised and delighted. The award comes with some rules...which I am about to bend...

Ha ja algum tempo a minha amiga Carmen premiou-me com o premio Arte e Pico de aarte e creatividade partilhada atraves dos blogs. Eu fiquei muito surpreendida e muito contente. O Premio vem com algumas regras... que eu vou torcer um bocadinho...


The rules include: 1) give this award to other five deserving blogs, for their creativity and contribution for the blog community; 2) show the name and give the link to the awardees; 3) show the award with pride and give the name and blog link of the one who gave her/him the award; 4) show the link of the award origin blog.

As regras incluem: 1) dar esta premio a cinco blogs que o merecam pela sua creatividade a contribuicao para a comunidade de blogs; 2) mostrar o nome e dar o "link" dos blogs premiados; 3) mostrar o premio com orgulho e dar o nome e 'link" de quem concedeu o premio; 4) mostrar a ligacao do blog onde o premio se originou.

I am awarding not five individual blogs but a group blog, Minerva's Circle. This group of very creative, skillful, artistic, intelligent, very proactive with lots of initiative and ideas women who meets every week to share projects, stories, culture (at least four out of the five continents are represented in this group) laughs and delicious food. The incredibly honest and joyful friendship make this a fantastic crafty group. And,... yes! I am part of it and am so proud of it!

Eu vou premiar nao cinco blogs individuais mas um blog de grupo, Minerva's Circle. Este grupo the mulheres extremamente creativas, maos de fada, artisticas, inteligentes, cheias de iniciativa e ideias que concretizam reunem-se todas as semanas para partilhar ideias, projectos, historias, cultura (pelo menos quatro dos cinco continentes estao ali representados), gargalhadas e risos e comida deliciosa. A amizade criada dentro deste grupo, incrivelmente honesta e positiva faz deste um grupo fantastico de artes artesanais. E,... sim! eu faco parte do grupo, com muito orgulho!

Snow, gorgeous snow!

It was late in the evening, the children were ready to go to bed, after a few books with daddy, when they heard "look through the window, go to the window"!
It was snowing, large light flakes drifting down in the air! So beautiful! It was the most beautiful snow we had experienced. In no time my son was dressed and ready to go, my daughter was so excited that I had to help her out.





Ja era tarde, as criancas estavam prontas para ir dormir depois de alguns livros lidos com o pai, quando ouviram: "vao ver a janela, vejam la fora!" Estava a nevar, flocos grandes e leves caiam pelo ar! Tao bonita! Foi a neve mais linda que ja alguma vez tinhamos visto. Num piscar de olhos o meu filho ficou pronto para ir para a rua. A minha filha estava tao entusiasmada que nem sabia o que fazer!




Next morning the snow was still there and the schools...were closed! Again my son was the first up and ready to go. Him and daddy were the first ones on the big slope with the sleds.

Na manha seguinte a neve ainda la estava e as escolas... estavam fechadas! O meu filho foi o primeiro a levantar-se e ficar pronto. Com o pai, foram os primeiros a escorregar com os trenos na encosta coberta de neve.

The Sun was rising...
O Sol estava a nascer...






And he was having a great time!!...
E ele a divertir-se a valer!!...







The Sun was up, a friend join him and the fun in the snow went on...
Com o Sol a brilhar, um amigo juntou-se-lhe na diversao da neve...








With a new pair of mittens (just sewn out of some spare fleece) my daughter was ready for the sled adventure.
Com um novo par de luvas (cosidas num instante, de um resto de pano quentinho) a minha filha tambem estava pronta para a aventura na neve.

Valentine's

I do not remember hearing of Valentine's day until I was in High School. It was always time to pass and receive those love notes at school, in secret...My son started having those love notes in kindergarten, despite of Valentine's day celebration since early in his life. It is nice to have a day dedicated to "Romance" but, as with every celebration it became a spending spree, an economic event. Not to mention one more time for children's to overdose on sugar... I have used Valentine's as a motif for crafting with my children. For my little girl, this is the first time she has a school group to remember with her Valentine's cards. So we got our hands on some construction paper, scissors, pencils, stickers... and I was pleasantly surprised....
Eu nao me lembro de falar do dia de S. Valentim ate andar na Escola Secundaria. Lembro-me dos papelinhos com mensagens amorosas, passados em segredo na escola... O meu filho comecou a trocar esse tipo de mensagens na Pre-escola, apesar da celebracao desse dia desde pequenino. E bom ter um dia especial dedicado ao "Romance" mas, como todas as datas especiais, esta tambem se tornou numa corrida para as lojas, um acontecimento economico. Isto para nao falar na "overdose de acucar" para os miudos, mais uma vez.
Eu tenho usado o S. Valentim para fazer trabalhos manuais com os meus filhos. Para a minha pequenita, esta foi a primeira vez que teve o grupo da escola para dedicar postais de S. Valentim. Pusemos maos a obra: papel as cores, tesoura, lapis, autocolantes... e ela surpreendeu-me agradavelmente.....














She cut paper hearts for all her friends at school plus... she remembered her friends back in Gainesville and almost everyone she likes! Then she wrote her name on each one. She stayed focused, enjoyed her work and at the end....
Ela cortou coracoes de papel para todos os seus amigos da escola e mais... lembrou-se dos seus amigos em Gainesville e quase todas as pessoas que gosta! A seguir escreveu o seu nome em cada coracao. Esteve concentrada, divertiu-se a trabalhar e no fim....

...she was quite proud of herself! Way to go, girl...
ficou muito orgulhosa de si propria! Assim e que e, minha querida...

Mommy!

Hello! I feel like I have been away forever! It seems like I have abandoned my blog, my crafts...
There is a good reason: I have been dedicating more time to my children. The afternoons to my son, the mornings to my daughter, the evenings to both, the nights have been alternating between the two (she wakes up with nightmares, he was not feeling well due to a cold that he ended up sharing with his sister)... And when they finally go to sleep, at around 8:30pm, I barely am able to check the email and the weather (yes, the weather! It is an addiction that started with the cold. I startle looking at predictions of temperatures near or below zero degrees Celsius!).
Ola! Ha tanto tempo que nao escrevo neste blog! Ate parece que o abandonei, assim como as minhas "artes". A razao e forte: tenho dedicado mais tempo aos meus filhos. As tardes sao para o meu filho, as manhas para a filha, para os dois ao fim dos dias e alternam entre os dois as noites (ela acorda com pesadelos, ele nao se sentia bem devido a uma constipacao que acabou por partilhar com a irma)... E quando finalmente adormecem, por volta das 8:30, eu mal consigo manter os olhos abertos para ver o email e o tempo! (sim, o tempo: passou a ser um vicio, que veio com o frio: eu fico espantada a olhar para previsoes de temperaturas perto ou abaixo de zero graus centigrados!).
My son found a cute rabbit on our yard! Amazingly, it did not run away... so we took some photos and gave him some carrots!
O meu filho descobriu um coelhito no nosso quintal. Como nao fugiu, aproveitamos para tirar fotografias e dar-lhe cenouras.

Then we went to dine at some friends home. I was very happy to bring a bottle of Aveleda, a rarity on this side of the Atlantic! A very good friend of mine found it at a "wine tasting" and kindly offered a bottle to me. Thank you so much! It was very special.
A seguir fomos jantar a casa de uma familia nossa amiga. Toda contente, levei uma garrafa de Aveleda, uma verdadeira raridade deste lado do Atlantico! Uma pessoa muito minha amiga encontrou-o numa "prova de vinhos" e deu-mo. Muito obrigado, foi muito especial.



It was a really pleasant and fun evening for all of us.





Foi um jantar bastante agradavel e divertido para todos.





Next day, my son made a beautiful "Thank you card" for the hostess, who had given a cute wooden toy that he painted.
No dia seguinte o meu filho fez um lindo postal de agradecimento para a dona da casa, por lhe ter dado uns brinquedos de madeira que ele pintou.








It was a beautiful day so we went for a bike ride.
Well, I walked to help the little one....

Estava um dia tao bonito que nos fomos andar de bicicleta. Bem, eu fui a pe para ajudar a pequenita...




...and she ended up riding away! "Hey, wait for meeeeeeeee..."
... e ela acabou por pedalar por ali fora! "Esperem por miiiiiimmm....."








"Come on Mom, were waiting!"...
Anda la mae, estamos a espera!"...














We had a good time! I love being a mother.

Divertimo-nos! Adoro ser mae.

Mud, soft mud....

I love the rain!!!
It rained all night and morning and in the afternoon, after school, there was only one obvious thing to be done: go play in the mud (he!he!).
Eu adoro a chuva!!!
Choveu durante toda a noite e manha. A tarde, depois da escola, o que tinhamos que fazer era claro: ir brincar na lama (ahah!!).


The red mud brings me memories of my own childhood... step on it, collect it and mold it in whatever our imagination would lead us to.
Aquele barro encarnado faz-me lembrar tempos em que eu era crianca... iamos para o barro, escolhiamos, apanhavamos e moldavamos.


They jumped into every (muddy) puddle they found and I finally run to get the camera. They had fun (and I joined in too! so soft and squishy under my feet, wow!!!!).
Os miudos saltaram em todas as pocas (com ou sem lama) que encontraram. Finalmente fui a correr buscar a maquina fotografica para reter algumas imagens. Divertiram-se a valer (e eu juntei-me a eles! Tao mole e escorregadio debaixo dos pes, yupi!!!!!)
