Summer at the Smokies

We went for the second time this Summer to the Mountains of North Carolina. On our first visit we stayed at the Black Mountain Campground. This time we went to Springmaid Mountain .

We started by visiting Linville Caverns, but it was outside at the stream that we really enjoyed the place.

At Springmaid, the suspended bridge was fun... for some of us, not all (my brave little girl, fear did not stop her from crossing!)

The stream, right off the hiking trail by our cabin.

At Mount Mitchell, the highest peak East of the Mississippi river.
But the "peak" of our trip was the sight of a Black Bear (sorry, no picture! just as ourselves, the little bear was quite surprised and run off as fast as he could into the brush), while driving on the Parkway.

At Penland School of Crafts: such an inspiring place!
The view from this veranda is fantastic! I just show you the veranda, which is really cute.
A paisagem vista desta varanda e espectacular.
The purple-straw monster at Penland!
O monstro das palhinhas roxas de Penland!
The kids enjoyed horse riding in the mornings. They are enthusiastic about horse riding lessons back home.
This is "Scout": the friendliest horse of all.

Rain dance

Hi!
We were really tired of having a gray sky and thunderstorms and no rain!
So, we decided to make our own rain dance....
Ola!

It worked....
Deu resultado....

This is my daughter's doll Grassy. We thought it was a girl but then, it started to grow some beard....

My Champion

HELLO
Ola
Wow, this was the longest period of silence in this blog! My apologies to all of you, who like to follow my posts. The kids have been busy while growing almost non-stop, happy, beautiful and loving, striving in their own challenges. Here's a little movie of my girl, my little champion:

See you soon!
Ate breve!

Skiing

Winter sports! I am a Summer type of person but I also love to experiment new things. So we joined my son's Cub Scouts in this ski field trip.
We woke up very early...
Acordamos muito cedo...
...ready for a new adventure!
...prontos para a aventura!
Getting closer to the ski resort!
Quase a chegar!
After waiting in the long lines to rent the equipment (and being surprised by a Portuguese speaking attendant, a always welcomed surprise) we were ready!
My daughter, first time on skis, enjoying the experience.
And there she goes!
La vai ela!
Family picture time.
My daughter loves snow and this powdery snow is incredibly soft!
A minha filhita adora a neve e esta e incrivelmente macia!
Yeppee!
Yeppee!

There they come, my son and his dad.
Veem-nos, o meu filho e o pai?

Ready, set...
Pronto, preparar...
GOoooo!!!
Partida!

Wow!

Look at the piece of icicle that just fell!
At the parking lot, our car also got its own icicles.
O nosso carro tambem congelou.
Time to go home! It was fun!
De volta para casa! Que fim-de-semana divertido.

Christmas time!

The first day off school was awesome: we have never experienced so much snow!
My son made a big snow ball,
...and many smaller ones to throw...
e muitas bolas pequenas para nos acertar...
It is hard to runaway in the snow, but my sweet daughter was there to save me.
Nao e facil fugir na neve, valeu-me a minha filhota que me defendeu.
eh eh... Got'ya!...
eh eh... apanhei-te!
We made snow angels.
Fizemos anjos de neve.
And our cat was crazily running around in the snow.
E a gata fartou-se de correr na neve.

My hubby and our daughter were out playing in the snow from sunrise till they were called for lunch! They build a nice snow "Fort" to defend from the enemies. (It actually lasted for almost the whole week!).
This year we had our Nativity: My cousin made out of clay the three figures Maria, Joseph and Jesus (click on the photo to see the details). We completed the scene with figures we had in our house. How do you like it?
Gostam?
Christmas dinner the way my son planned a few years ago, which became our family tradition.
Good morning: it is Christmas day!
Bom dia: Dia de Natal!
Santa was thoughtful, he brought the "wizardry" book my son really wanted!
Any more presents?
Ha aqui mais alguma prenda?!?...
Wow! A Nintendo product!
Uahu: um produto da Nintendo!
And to make Christmas really really special, grandparents and uncle John made it through the rain and icy cold weather to join us and celebrate.
Thank you for making it so special!

The day after Christmas was a nice day to be outdoors and enjoy the playground.
Have a great last weekend of 2009!

White Christmas?

Well, probably not but we are having a white weekend before Christmas!
Today it was the last day of school.
The kids had a great time celebrating the holidays with some crafts,..
Os miudos celebraram fazendo pequenos projectos relativos a estacao festiva...
...really cute!
And school was dismissed two hours early because of the ice and snow!
...nao sao giros?
What a great way to start the holidays!
We have been wishing for snow since... I guess since the school started, if you ask my kids...
You won't catch me!!!!
Ahh.. nao me apanhas!!!
This is so much fun!
Isto e tao divertido!
"I am starting to work on a snowman".
Guess who also came to investigate?
Adivinhem quem veio investigar?
She didn't stay for long... just like myself. I really like to watch my kids having fun in the snow, through the window and with a nice glass of wine...
Have a great weekend!
Adivinharam!
Bom fim-de-semana!
