NYC what a trip!

Hi there:
we went to New York City. We enjoyed walking all over Manhattan and visiting some of the NYC great treasures.
Boas:
a familia foi de viagem a Nova Yorque. Passeamos por Manhattan, nas ruas cheias de vida, ladeadas por arranha-ceus e fomos visitar alguns dos tesouros da cidade.

Certainly my son does not have that problem: look at him sticking his head through the fence! Afterwards he asked me if I had had an "heart attack"... (hum, funny)...
O meu filho certamente que nao tem desses problemas: olhem para ele com a cabeca fora da grade! A seguir perguntou-me se eu tinha tido um ataque cardiaco... (muito engracado, hum)...

I guess he was looking for the Lego Store: the "highest" point of attraction in NYC (at least for him), right at the Rockefeller Center.
Parece-me que estava e tentar ver a loja dos Legos, a atraccao central de Nova Iorque (pelo menos para ele).

In the evening, they played with their new Lego sets at the windowsill of the Hotel room, with Times Square for foreground. What a great view: they were amazed that there were people on the street when they went to bed and when they woke up: always, always people around!
The city that never sleeps, so true!

A noite, brincaram com os novos Legos no parapeito do quarto do hotel, tendo por cenario o Times Square. Que vista incrivel: os miudos estavam pasmados pois as ruas estavam cheias de gente tanto quando eles se iam deitar como quando se lavantavam: havia sempre gente a passar!
A cidade que nao dorme, como e conhecida, e bem verdade!

We decided to see the Statue of Liberty from the ferry: the trip by ferry was an adventure and this way we skipped the "lines". There's Manhattan right behind us. The statue is on the left, but already too faraway to be noticed in the picture.
Decidimos ver a Estatua da Liberdade a partir do ferry: a viagem em si era uma aventura e assim evitamos as filas (para os bilhetes). Na foto ve-se Manhattan atras de nos. A esquerda e New jersey e a ilha da estatua a frente, ja demasiado longe para se ver na fotografia.

She hurt her knee and went to cry on her brother's shoulder?!? Hey, mine is right here....

Ela magoou-se no joelho e foi chorar no ombro do irmao?!? Hei, o meu esta mesmo aqui...

I am so proud of my children!
Then we went to the Museum of Natural History: amazing, so much to see, so much to experience and learn...

This is the infra-red picture of my kids. My son put an ice cube on his forehead: it looked like he had a blue hole on his head.
Esta e uma foto de infra-vermelho dos miudos. O meu filho pos um cubo de gelo na testa e parecia que tinha um buraco azul na cabeca.

The Bull of Wall Street (represents when stocks are good and wealthy).
O touro do Wall Street (representa quando os stocks estao altos).

Central Park is really nice: you can go for walks, bike rides, climb rocks, read a book... have a good relaxed time.
O "Central Park" e muito bonito: veem-se pessoas a passear, andar de bicicleta, ler, conversar, trepar as rochas... enfim, descansar e passar um tempo agradavel.

There were quite a few rowing boats at the lake.
Neste dia havia uma quantidade de pequenos barcos a remos no lago.

And also a water park for the kids!

E tambem tem um parque de agua para os mais pequenos!

Passeio ao longo da 5ta Avenida: "Pai, porque estas a fugir?"

ON Sunday, we had lunch at the Street Fair, down Brodway, over Times Square. Good food!
No Domingo acordamos com a vista de tendas a serem montadas ao longo da rua Broadway, incluindo a "Times Square". Almocamos na Feira (que parece que se realiza todos os Domingos, pelo menos no Verao). Comemos umas espetadas, nada mau!

And after going to see the "Lion King", it was "girls night out".

Depois de ver o espectaculo "O Rei Leao" foi a noite das raparigas passearem (os homens foram dormir).

In front of the United Nations building: I wish all the Nations became really united, in respect, freedom and health.
Em frente ao edificio das Nacoes Unidas. Desejo que as Nacoes realmente se unam, em respeito mutuo, liberdade, saude e boa vontade.

Christmas time!

The first day off school was awesome: we have never experienced so much snow!

O primeiro dia de ferias foi belissimo: nunca tinhamos tido tanta neve!

My son made a big snow ball,

O meu filho fez uma bola de neve enorme,

...and many smaller ones to throw...
e muitas bolas pequenas para nos acertar...

It is hard to runaway in the snow, but my sweet daughter was there to save me.
Nao e facil fugir na neve, valeu-me a minha filhota que me defendeu.

eh eh... Got'ya!...
eh eh... apanhei-te!

We made snow angels.
Fizemos anjos de neve.

And our cat was crazily running around in the snow.
E a gata fartou-se de correr na neve.

My hubby and our daughter were out playing in the snow from sunrise till they were called for lunch! They build a nice snow "Fort" to defend from the enemies. (It actually lasted for almost the whole week!).
Pai e filha vieram para a rua quando o Sol nasceu e so foram para casa quando os chamei para almocar! Depois de muito brincar, construiram um "Forte" de neve. (Na verdade este "Forte" aguentou-se sem se derreter durante quase uma semana!).

This year we had our Nativity: My cousin made out of clay the three figures Maria, Joseph and Jesus (click on the photo to see the details). We completed the scene with figures we had in our house. How do you like it?
Este ano fizemos um presepio: a minha primita moldou as tres figuras Maria, Jose e Jesus (clique na foto para ver os pormenores) e nos resolvemos completar com figuras que existiam ca em casa. Gostam?

Christmas dinner the way my son planned a few years ago, which became our family tradition.
O jantar da noite de Natal, conforme planeado pelo meu filho ha alguns anos atras e que passou a ser a tradicao da nossa familia.

Santa was thoughtful, he brought the "wizardry" book my son really wanted!
O Pai Natal trouxe o livro sobre "Feiticeiros" que o meu filho queria!

And to make Christmas really really special, grandparents and uncle John made it through the rain and icy cold weather to join us and celebrate.

School!

Hi!
It has been almost two months since school started. We all are getting settled in the new routine and all is going really well.
Ola!
A escola ja comecou ha quase dois meses. A nossa nova rotina esta a ficar bem estabelecida e tudo esta a correr lindamente.

This was on the first day of school. My daughter was quite excited, it was a new school for her. My son was more like "OK, it's back to the old same thing, what's to be excited about????...." but he was very happy when he saw his buddies in his classroom and in fact he ended up realizing that it was not really like "the old same thing", not even for him...

No primeiro dia a minha filha estava mesmo entusiasmada, para ela era o comeco numa nova escola. O meu filho estava aparentemente indiferente "OK, estamos de volta a mesma coisa, qual a razao de tanto aparato?... mas ficou mesmo contente de ver que os seus melhores amigos iam estar com ele e de facto ele acabou por verificar que tambem para ele nao ia ser a mesma coisa dos anos anteriores...

We're together and we like it!

On the way back from school we usually "decompress" at the playground with some friends.
No caminho para casa geralmente relaxamos a brincar no parque com alguns amigos.

There was a long weekend and our family went to the Springs with some friends.
It was fun...
Num fim-de-semana mais comprido, a nossa familia juntamente com uma familia nossa amiga foi visitar umas nascentes de agua.
Foi divertido...

... and very pleasant!
...e muito agradavel!

A very nice weekend

It was "Memorial Day" weekend: three full days of freedom (at least in my kids perspective!).
Foi o fim-de-semana de "Memorial day": tres dias completos de liberdade (pelo menos na perspectiva dos meus filhos!).

One cannot have too much of a good thing: thus, we went back to the strawberry farm and picked more delicious strawberries: we ate them "as is", in a smoothie, as popsicles and with whipped cream for dessert!
O que e bom nunca e demais: por isso voltamos a quinta dos morangos e apanhamos mais dessa deliciosa fruta: comemo-los simples, fizemos batidos, gelados e com chantilly para sobremesa!

In the afternoon we wnet to see the show "Hi-Yo, Silver!
Music of the Wild West" by the Winston-salem Symphony.
A tarde fomos ver o espectaculo pela simfonia de Winston-Salem, Hi-Yo, Silver!

Afterwards was time to play and celebrate friendship.

Depois do espectaculo foi tempo de brincadeira e fazer amizades.
Sunday morning I woke up early (against all odds!!!). So my son and I decided to use that time to go for a walk in the trail. We brought the binoculars and the camera.
No domingo acordei de madrugada (nao e normal!!!!). Resolvi aproveitar para ir com o meu filho dar um passeio pelo trilho. Trouxemos os binoculos e a maquina fotografica.

We saw a few footprints of deer (above picture).
Vimos pegadas de veado (foto acima).

A flock of Canada geese (Branta canadensis). We also spotted a gorgeous Indigo Bunting male (Passerina Cyanea).
Um bando de gansos (Branta canadensis). Tambem vimos um lindo passaro azul Passerina Cyanea.

We saw a dense "community" of these bugs, which I could not find in my "Insect pocket guide". If you can help the identification, let me know...
A beira do trilho vimos esta densa comunidade de insectos, os quais nao consegui encontrar no meu guia de campo dos insectos. Se puder ajudar na identificacao, diga-me...
My son likes the bugs. He remembers that we had a lot of these populating our flower pots outside of our home in Florida.
O meu filho gosta muito de insectos. Ele lembrou-se imediatamente de que estes insectos tambem eram abundantes nos nossos vasos de plantas que tinhamos a volta da nossa casa da Florida.

On Monday it was raining and we went to the museum "Sci works". My son experienced the mechanics of riding a bicycle.
Na Segunda-feira estava a chover e nos fomos ao museu da ciencia "Sci works". O meu filho experimentou a mecanica de guiar uma bicicleta.

They played some musical instruments...
Tocaram em alguns instrumentos musicais...

...but we spent most of the time at my daughters favorite room, the one health care: she loves dental matters: (maybe Francisco will have an apprentice, in a few years?!...)
...mas passamos a maior parte do tempo na sala favorita da minha filha, a relacionada com a saude, mais precisamente do cuidado dos dentes: (talvez daqui a uns anos ela venha a ser uma aprendiz com o Francisco?..).

When we left the museum they were as perspired as if we were leaving a gym (they really worked hard at the Sci-"works"). To cool down, they put the swim-suits on and went play in the rain!
Quando saimos do museu eles estavam tao transpirados como se tivessem ido ao ginasio (fartaram-se de trabalhar no sci-works). Para se refrescarem, vestiram os fatos-de-banho e foram brincar na chuva!

Rain is great fun!
